Lindy Hop

Up until to and including the 50s, Big Bands mainly played for dances, and the dance perfectly fitting the Big Band sound is the Lindy Hop. It's based on the Charleston of the 20s which developed into a two-step called the 'Hop'. Today, the Lindy Hop enjoys a big revival, and even though it is still most popular as a couple dance, stylistically nowadays, there are no holds barred. There is word that the name of Lindy Hop dates back to 1927 when Charles “Lindy” Lindbergh was first to 'hop' across the Atlantic non-stop from New York to Paris.

The Ambassador Big Band conducts its own Lindy Hop events and has regular appearances with the organizer The Swing Machine. During the 60 minutes before the band starts playing a crash course is taught by professional Lindy Hoppers, a format that has stood the test of time at weddings and other events because a crash course gets your party jumping in the literal sense. It's completely informal, so that even clumsy dancers have a ball!

We've recorded a video with some Lindy Hop fans. Take a look!
